Città romana di Mevaniola

The archaeological site of the Roman town of Mevaniola has been excavated several times by the Emilia-Romagna Archaeological Office. Of the Roman town are still visible some structures of the public baths, the theatre built in the characteristic Greek-hellenistic style and a small cistern.

Accessibility

Galeata is 34 kilometres from Forlì along the 4 Bidente provincial road. Driving towards Santa Sofia take the old carriageway between Galeata and Pianetto and then turn right into the pathway towards Canova - Basino until you reach on foot the archaeological area.

The archaeological site is located at 5 km from Tredozio, on the municipal road running along the Apennine ridge between Tredozio and Rocca San Casciano.

Museo Archeologico 'Tobia Aldini'

The Archaealogical Civic Museum is housed in the Fortress of Albornoz and is divided into six halls.

It contains different findings mainly from the excavations throughout the municipal territory from the prehistoric to the modern age.

Located inside the fortress, in Piazza Fratti, the main square of Forlimpopoli. The Museum is accessibile through a main entrance where there are three steps. There is also access by steps to some of the rooms.

Museo civico 'Mons. Domenico Mambrini'

Born out of the private collection of Mons. Domenico Mambrini (1879-1944), this museum is further enriched by numerous findings recovered over the years during the excavations conducted in Galeata archaeological sites (Mevaniola, Theodoric villa) and materials from the Abbey of San Ellero.

The museum houses within its halls and deposits a variety of materials ranging from the prehistoric time to the contemporary age.

The museum has moved from Palazzo Pretorio of Galeata to the Convent of Minor Friars of Pianetto.

News

At the Museum is on view a multimedia video about the ancient settling in the Upper Bidente Valley from the prehistoric time to medieval time.

Villa di Teoderico

Imposing elegant villa with private spa bath dating back to the years of Theodoric reign in Italy (5th-6th century a.D.).

Excavations on the site have brought to light older structures from the Roman time as well as valuable protohistoric and preroman findings probably belonging to a rustic countryside villa.

News

In the area is underway an excavation project curated by the Archaeological Department of Bologna University.

A selection of the materials recovered on the site (with a chronological excursus from the Protohistory to the High Middle Ages) is on display in the hall dedicated to the Theodoric villa inside the Civic Museum "Mons. Domenico Mambrini" of Pianetto.

Opening time

The site is open to the public at any time; the archaeological structures can today be visited during the archaeological excavations in the summer season (June-July) conducted by the Archaeological Department of Bologna University.
