Master's MIREES in a nutshell

Leading International Faculty

MIREES is a programme taught in English with a faculty of worldwide prominent scholars. Therefore, students will be encouraged to meet different teaching, absorb differentiated perspectives, in a plurality of angles, as powerful motivation for acknowledging differences, understanding “otherness”, making insight comparisons, being educated to deal substantially with their own future area of expertise.


International Experience

MIREES offers a two-years language skills programme to be developed partially in Italy and partially in the partner Universities of East, Central and Balkan Europe, during their 6-month mobility for a period of study in the second year of the Programme.

International Environment

Students enrolled in the MIREES programme come from a large number of countries, from Eastern and Western Europe, from the US and the Balkans. Therefore, since their arrival, their interaction with the other students is intensive and intellectually stimulating, dealing with a variety of experiences, views, and approaches.

Interdisciplinary Methodology

The MIREES programme offers curricula in Economy; International Relations and Politics; History, Anthropology and Cultural Studies. Students, while deepening the field of study of their choice, are expected to develop skills and gain understanding by putting them in a wider context in order to acquire sensitivity to the interdisciplinary impact in decision-making processes.

International Diploma

MIREES awards an international diploma jointly issued by the Universities of Bologna, Ljubljana, Vitautas Magnus University of Kaunas, Corvinus University of Budapest, and Dániel Berzseny College of Szombáthely.

Well-Focussed Education

Thanks to its intensive international programme, MIRESS forges insightful consultants, analysts, and managers as Area Experts for international agencies, public administrations, private and public companies, NGOs, while also offering a solid basis for further academic studies at the PhD level.

Structure Of The Programme

1st YEAR

During the first two terms, to be spent in Forlì, students are required to attend courses, seminars and open lectures for a total of 58 credits according to the following scheme:

  • three compulsory courses respectively in State Building, Nationalism, and Development in Eastern Europe; Statistics; and Research Problems and Methods;
  • one foreign language course in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Polish, Russian, or Slovak;
  • four 20-hour courses within their chosen disciplinary group;
  • two 20-hour courses, one per each disciplinary group other than the students' favourite disciplinary group;
  • as many seminars as desired in any disciplinary group.

2nd YEAR

The third term of the programme (of at least 5 months) is to be spent in another partner University selected together with the Faculty according to the student’s study programme. The mobility consists of both research work and learning. During this term students are expected to attend one language course among those on offer, two or more courses in their chosen field of expertise, while carrying out the selection of the documents and all the research activities related to their thesis, for a total of 52 credits.

Mobility grants are available to all students thanks to the Socrates exchange program and the «MIREES Mobility Scheme».

The fourth terms is wholly devoted to the writing of the thesis for 8 additional credits. No teaching activities are scheduled during this term. However, students work in close contact with their supervisors and meet for one work-in-progress thesis discussion. The defence of the thesis takes place in Forlì in the 24th month of the program.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must normally hold a 1st level University Degree (3 or 4 year course), BA or comparable qualifications in one of the following subjects: Political Science, Law, Economics, Agriculture, Foreign Languages, Social Sciences, International and Diplomatic Sciences, Communication Science, Italian Language and Culture, Education Science, Arts and Philosophy, or Psychology.

Tuition And Grants

Tuition fees for both years of the programme amount to a total of € 8,000.00 to be paid in 4 instalments. Admitted students may be eligible for special grants based on academic achievements and financial needs (for a complete list of MIREES’ sponsors and scholarship types, check the Sponsors section).

Language Of Teaching

Given that English is the language of teaching, applicants must have achieved a minimum score of 550 TOEFL or 7 IELTS or a comparable qualification.
